Summer Solstice

I KNOOOOW! It's not even here yet, and I'm already freaking out! The Summer Solstice is a traditional holiday that celebrates one of the two longest days of the year. The Summer Solstice, also known as midsummer, has been celebrated as early as when the druids were prominent. (Some historians even believe the Solstice celebration was the reason for the Stonehenge's construction.).

Needless to say, I am superduper excited to celebrate it, and no one ever knows what it is exactly. I'm already putting together arrangements for a party, and I'm about to go outside and construct a wicker man. It is time to educate people about this ancient holiday (which is pretty well known in europe)

The wicker man tradition started as a pagan ritual, and would often be part of the Solstice celebration. The burning of this giant wooden man was considered to be a sacrifice to the gods. However, for MY celebration I plan on having all of the party guests write their greatest wish on a piece of paper so that I can throw the paper inside the wicker man, and burn it. This will be a totally new perspective on the tradition, and I take full credit for inventing it, ha!

I'll keep you guys posted on the party's progress :)

Love at First Sight...

So here's an interesting prospect. Love at first sight.Does it exist? Or does love take time to develop? Just curious....

A Tragedy

I know that this blog is meant to be upbeat, it really is. But I would think it disrespectful not to share this information with the rest of the world. A few days ago, Alabama was hit by a series of tornadoes, one being an F5. The results were catastrophic, leaving over 200 Alabamians dead, and tons more out of house and home. I, was very close to the tornado myself, and though I'm glad it did no damage to my house, there is a mixed sadness for those who weren't so fortunate. The death rate is still climbing.

While working at the grocery store the other day, I noticed tons of people buying water and canned goods, all for the benefit of these poor victims. It does me great pride to live in such a giving community. Perhaps we should be like this everyday, and not just wait for disaster to strike, to become generous. However, and I don't say this often but, I am proud of Alabama and it's citizens.

Peace.

Dear Miss Hoffman,

You know that one movie that you've loved ever since you were a kid? Yeah, for me that movie is Practical Magic. Ever since I was young I've been enthralled by the very idea of magic and the occult so seeing this as a child blew my mind. As I've matured, I've found underlying themes that I can identify with (social rejection, and coming to terms with one's own nature) and, thus the movie has stuck alongside me.

Well, my grandmother has just recently bought the book and she's let me borrow it for a while. I must say, the book is amazing! It has a few differences, but Ann Hoffman's writing style is simply beautiful. I haven't picked up a book like this in quite a while. I can't wait to finish it! haha

Flo, You Are My Inspiration

So, I have a confession. I'm addicted. No, No, not physically. Not chemichally. But I am musically additcted to Florence and the Machine.

Every time I have a friend over or meet someone new, I force them into my bedroom computer chair, strap them in, and turn on a Florence video. I've seen all types of reaction to her music, everything from thrilled excitement and awe to just plain confusion. I know, I know, she's not for everyone. BUT none of my friends deny that she has quite some talent.

Today I was cleaning out my car at the local truck stop, doors thrown all the way open, with her music playing full blast. I couldn't help but notice how many odd looks I got. Granted, the music was slightly on the loud side, but who can deny the awesome power of FLO? No one, that's who. I'm sure it was all just too much for them to handle.

Anyways, I wanted to start this blog off right by tributing my favorite musical artist (and inspiration). I literally listen to this song every day before I go into work (belting along with her always washes out the negative energy that I may be feeling). Not only that, but the lyrics COMPLETELY apply to a hardship that I've been facing for a while now.

Eh? What do you think? That's some pretty powerful stuff, and she is absolutely GORGEOUS! Now, this song just recently took off for being on the Water for Elephants trailer, and even though I've been listening to her a lot longer than other people, I have a strong feeling she is right on the brink of busting into the mainstream. I encourage you all to look up more of her music videos! If you liked this one, I SWEAR you'll be totally hooked on the other ones as well.

Peace.

The Stepping Stone

I've currently had a marvelous revelation; until recently I've HATED myself. I've hated the way I look, the way I act, and all the changes that I've gone through. The more I thought about it, the more I hated myself for, well, hating myself.

But it's all okay, I'm at ease I've finally let go of those insecurities and can now accept myself for who I am. I like the new me, in fact, most people also feel that I'm rather likable. So you know what, no more worries. I'm just going to be happy.

So, I've stepped into a new era in my life. I'm adapting to and embracing my inner bohemian hippie. Life is going to be a breeze from here on out, tough times or not. No matter how many hardknocks are thrown my way, I'll always remember that at the end of the day the sunset is golden.
